2013 D.W. Brooks Diversity Award - Faculty

Department: Food Science and Technology

Huang is a professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology, as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of Marine Sciences. His research areas include food safety and microbiology, seafood technology and product development. He is currently focusing on the application of nanotechnology in rapid detection techniques for foodborne pathogens and toxins.

Huang teaches classes such as New Food Product Development, Flavor Chemistry, Introduction to Food Science and Technology, and the First-Year Odyssey seminar Tea: Art, Science and Technology. He also serves as the program director for the CAES China study abroad program during Maymester.

Huang is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (2009). He has received many awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award for Academic Achievement from National Taiwan Ocean University (2011); the Famous-Overseas-Teacher Award from Jiangsu Province, China (2011); and the D.W. Brooks Award for Excellence in Global Programs from the University of Georgia (2010).

Huang received his B.S. degree from National Taiwan Ocean University. He completed both his M.S. degree and Ph.D. at the University of Georgia.
